Birdie found this one on a late afternoon when the light was doing something extraordinary — that particular periwinkle blue that only exists between late summer and early fall, when the sky can't quite decide what color it wants to be. The Free People ruffle mini dress is made for exactly that kind of in-between moment.
The fabric is a tonal stripe in periwinkle blue scattered with a ditsy floral print in golden yellow, burnt orange, soft peach, and near-black — small blooms and botanical shapes that give the pattern a folkloric, gathered-from-a-meadow feel. The deep V-neckline is framed by generous ruffled trim that cascades across the bust and down the front, layered and fluid. The sides open into cutout panels, letting the dress breathe and move, while a ruffle trim band defines the waist. Long bell sleeves fall dramatically from the shoulder, finishing at the wrist with matching ruffle cuffs. The mini skirt ends in a soft lettuce-edge hem that curls naturally with the fabric. A full periwinkle blue lining underneath keeps everything in place.
Shell and lining are both 100% viscose — lightweight, fluid, and beautifully draping. Hand wash cold separately, no bleach, lay flat to dry.
Style it with flat leather sandals, a worn leather belt at the waist, and layered fine necklaces for a look that belongs at a concert, a rooftop, or a farmers market where someone plays guitar by the entrance. Estimated Retail: ~$148.
Thrifted. Curated. Totally you.
